Job Description
As a Tooling Expert, you will serve as the technical liaison between Cloud Operations and Engineering for our deployment and release infrastructure. You aren’t just a user of tools; you are the one who ensures they work effectively so Cloud Operations can perform their daily duties efficiently. This role is designed for a high-autonomy engineer who can own issue resolution end-to-end without relying on core engineering teams.
You will act as the first point of contact for complex debugging scenarios involving Jenkins pipelines, GitHub Actions, and Terraform environments. Given the critical nature of this role, you will be granted a higher level of environment access than standard cloud engineers to facilitate rapid recovery and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
-
Autonomous Problem Solving: Own and resolve complex technical issues within the CI/CD pipeline and cloud infrastructure without escalating to engineering.
-
First-Response Debugging: Lead investigations into failed upgrades and orders, identifying root causes in Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform configurations.
-
Infrastructure Reliability: Maintain and optimize deployment tooling to ensure high availability and seamless release cycles.
-
Privileged Troubleshooting: Utilize elevated system access to perform deep-level debugging across Windows and Linux environments as well as CI/CD, version control, and cloud orchestration tools.
-
Process Improvement: Identify recurring failure patterns in the new order and release process, document, and suggest permanent fixes to Engineering via JIRA.
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Experience: Approximately 5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or Tooling Engineering.
-
Cloud Orchestration: Deep understanding of AKS, Kubernetes and Argo CD.
-
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced proficiency in Terraform.
-
CI/CD & Version Control: Extensive experience with Jenkins pipelines and GitHub.
-
OS Agnostic: Strong troubleshooting skills in both Windows and Linux environments via CLI.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Security Mindset: Experience managing secrets and sensitive configurations within a high-access environment.
-
Scripting Expertise: Proficiency in Python, Bash or similar scripting language to automate "self-healing" scripts for common pipeline failures and enhance/automate common intra-team tasks.
-
Certification: CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
-
Monitoring: Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack) to preemptively identify upgrade bottlenecks.
Daily Operations
This role operates within a high-velocity framework to ensure maximum uptime for our release solutions:
-
Team Sync (Weekly Stand-up): You will participate in a weekly sync with the Cloud Operations team to prioritize critical blockers, review failed orders from the previous week, and coordinate with Adam Anzeveno on high-priority infrastructure goals.
Two-Week Sprints: While your primary focus is real-time debugging, you will dedicate a percentage of your capacity to Engineering stand-ups and sprint reviews to get an in-depth look at what is being released from Engineering and how it impacts our tool suite.
