About the Opportunity

Avaya has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, commercially focused and experienced individual to join its Global Commercial Contracts team in EMEA & APAC. You will support Avaya’s business mainly in UK&I and sometimes other EMEA & APAC countries. Your main responsibility will be using your excellent negotiation skills to support our sales teams to close non-standard deals with:
•    our direct customers, negotiating both cloud and ‘on-prem’ agreements; 
•    our channel partners, including distribution, reseller and agency agreements; and
•    service providers and systems integrators.

You will become part of our collaborative Global Commercial Contracts, EMEA & APAC team that supports our sales and delivery teams across the region. You will work closely with our attorneys, other contract negotiators, channel organization, sales teams, finance, and the various business units in EMEA & APAC and globally to provide commercially astute, risk aware support to our channel partners and customers. 

In this role you will be reporting to the Contract Management Director, EMEA & APAC. It would be beneficial for you to be primarily based in Guildford, UK, however this is a role that allows some flexibility in terms of location.

About the Responsibilities

•    Become an integral part of the sales team throughout the full sales cycle for specific deals including:
o    providing input to the commercial sales strategy;
o    responding to RFPs/ITTs;
o    reviewing non-standard contractual and other documentation that binds Avaya;
o    performing risk assessments and developing recommendations with sales and delivery teams to manage or mitigate identified risks; 
o    identifying flow-through terms to or from our supply chain; and
o    managing contract negotiations and escalations, 
all while ensuring adherence to company policies or seeking approvals to deviate where appropriate. 
•    Effectively manage cross-functional internal teams to drive negotiations to closure. 
•    Serve as a "trusted advisor" to our internal business clients.
•    Escalate extraordinary risks and issues to the Contract Management Director and/or relevant business unit as appropriate for resolution and support.
•    Advise sales and delivery teams, as well as senior management, using your extensive contract knowledge, commercial acumen, knowledge of the requirement for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, awareness of company policies and financial strategies, and the customer’s requirements.
•    Participate in executive briefings and deal reviews. 
•    Proactively anticipate the business’s needs and recommend simple solutions to complex problems. 
•    Support global and local initiatives to improve processes, templates, and job aids.

About You

To be successful, you will:
•    Have the experience to jump straight in, build relationships and add value from day one.
•    Be enthusiastic, pro-active and willing to get ‘stuck in’ to resolve problems.
•    Be a collaborative team player.
•    Have a UK law or business degree, or equivalent degree or experience.
•    Be fluent in English - other European languages are a plus with German language being highly beneficial.
•    Have a minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience with a technology company in a commercial, contracting or legal role. 
•    Have experience negotiating Cloud and Software as a Service deals, as well as knowledge of traditional software licensing and services contracts.
•    Demonstrate experience and skills in supporting large and/or strategic negotiations including project management. 
•    Have proven skills in drafting commercial transactions. 
•    Be an excellent negotiator with strong influencing skills that can plan, manage and conduct negotiations on a non-confrontational, win-win basis. 
•    Have strong business acumen. 
•    Be able to manage and prioritize a demanding workload. 
•    Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and inter-personal skills. 
•    Have a track record of excellence in past employment and academics.
