We’re looking for a self-motivated and experienced software engineer, who specializes in developing highly available, horizontally scalable cloud-based web applications. You must have a solid understanding of either Front End (SPA) or Back End (REST API) frameworks and be willing to learn new technologies and collaborate with the open source community.

If you share project code samples (on Github or privately) before or during the interview, then you’re well on your way to being hired! Also, we're hiring both Front End (web/mobile) and Back End web developers, so it's best that you know both ends, but it's also okay if you’ve spent most of your time on only one.

Long Description

The Cloud team at Avaya is seeking a talented, passionate Full Stack developer to guide our team in developing our next generation communications platform. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building cloud apps, turning customer needs into elegant, user-centered designs, as well as implementing those designs in the presentation layer by using smart, clean web development patterns. The ideal candidate will have experience understanding, mapping, designing, developing, and testing systems that enable users to easily interact within our platform. UX Design experience is a plus. As a Full Stack Engineer, you have the chance to leave your mark on apps that are vitally important to the future of Avaya. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced start-up like environment and want to invent the future. We are looking for an Engineer with experience on both front end interfaces and back end systems.

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve web and mobile applications
  • Optimize for scale to support millions of users
  • Collaborate with other development teams
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables
  • Implementation of a robust set of services and APIs to power the web application
  • Integration of the front-end and back-end aspects of the web application
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use

Front End Skills Required

  • Advanced javascript experience including async programming, promise, event loop...etc.
  • React.js/Redux is a must have skill. Capable of dealing with complex data schema, data flow and statement management
  • Have strong critical thinking and mindset to deal with ever growing complex web frontend development including but not limited: Troubleshooting skill, logging collection (to server maybe), WebRTC media processing, browser side performance optimization. Knowing different browser’s behaviors
  • Very comfortable dealing with CSS/HTML, Bootstrap/Flexbox layouts
  • Very sensitive to end user experience and user flow
  • Knowledge on other SPA frameworks such as Angular.js/Vue.js is also a plus
Additional Requirements

Back End Skills Required

  • Familiar with at least one web framework: Node.js Express, Django/Flask, asp.net, go net/http (or others), etc.
  • Proficient in Node.js async programming. Knowing Python is also a plus
  • Proficient in MongoDB/Mongoose. Knowing other NoSQL and SQL database is also a plus
  • Log analyzing, debugging and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of popular authentication mechanisms: OAuth2/OpenID Connect/JWT/Session
  • Hands-on experience on any of the big cloud providers: Google Cloud, AWS, Azure
  • Conceptually understand the following: Load balancer, Auto Scaler, Kubernetes, Docker
  • Know how to horizontally scale web applications to increase concurrency level to multi-million end users

3 years experience at the Engineer Two level or 5 – 8 years total experience
