Job Information

Job Code: 00194006

Job Family: Research and Development

Job Function: Software Engineering

About The Role

The Scrum Master (SM) ensures the way of working enables delivery within Avaya’s CI/CD Feature Team model. This role owns flow health, process discipline, and continuous improvement — protecting the team’s ability to deliver continuously through WIP discipline, impediment removal, and ensuring Jira reflects execution reality, not planning aspiration. Avaya keeps the customer at the core. The SM protects flow so the team can deliver customer-valuable increments continuously. This role facilitates, coaches, and removes impediments. It partners closely with the Product Owner (PO), Delivery and Execution Lead (DEL), Technical Lead (TL), and PLM (Analyst). It does not own backlog content/acceptance, delivery-commitment outcomes, product prioritization, technical decisions, or release Go/No-Go.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (Daily Flow/standup, Planning, Refinement, Review, Retrospective, Demo) that produce decisions and momentum
  • Enforce WIP limits and working agreements to protect flow and prevent overcommitment
  • Remove team-level and systemic impediments; escalate what the team cannot resolve alone
  • Keep Jira (and Zephyr-related progress signals) accurate and trustworthy — daily, no exceptions
  • Use flow metrics (cycle time, throughput, blocked time) to drive continuous improvement
  • Partner with PO on readiness and sprint-commitment alignment; TL on technical/pipeline impediments; DEL on cross-team/systemic escalation; PLM on requirement clarity impacting flow
  • Coach the team on sustainable pace, psychological safety, and customer-aware delivery conversations - without taking product ownership
  • Use AI (Tier 2 — Practitioner) to accelerate sprint-health, flow, and retrospective prep; remain accountable for facilitation judgment and data integrity

Required qualifications

  • Strong background in Agile ways of working; familiarity with Scrum, SAFe, ICAgile, Scrum Alliance, and/or related certifications / continuing education
  • Work-item tracking experience — Jira preferred, or comparable tools (Rally, Azure DevOps/ADO)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace preferred, or equivalent Microsoft Office fluency
  • Proven ceremony facilitation and coaching craft (Powerful Questions, Active Listening, constructive collaboration)
  • Flow and metrics literacy; demonstrated continuous-improvement follow-through
  • Strong stakeholder communication and conflict navigation under delivery pressure
  • Comfort using AI tools to support facilitation and metrics prep, with human accountability for decisions and board accuracy

What success looks like

  • Predictable flow with consistent throughput and minimal blocked work
  • Trustworthy, current Jira/Zephyr data
  • Continuous improvement that is visible and actionable
  • Sprint objectives supported through strong process facilitation — without the SM becoming a task manager, delivery owner, or people manager

Experience

9+ Years of Experience

Education

Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
Advance Degree preferred in Computer Science or Related Field
