As a member of the Endpoints Research and Development team you will collaborate with Software, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams as well as our manufacturing partners to develop features on our desktop audio and video devices.You will have a full suite of acoustic test tools at your fingertips as well as experts in the industry to guide your development.
To be successful in this role you must appreciate the complexity of acoustic performance and goals and have the drive to investigate, learn and deliver.
About the Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain acoustic test systems from Listen Inc. and HEAD Acoustics
- Interpret TIA and ETSI test results as will Avaya proprietary requirements
- Develop the acoustic tuning and features for various endpoints and interfaces (handset, headset(s), handsfree, Bluetooth, DECT)
- Analyze the repeatability of early designs and collaborate on improvements prior to mass production
- Evaluate 2nd source components as well as cost reduction opportunities
- Your work is peer reviewed and improvements integrated into new SW streams or HW build revisions using Atlassian development tools
- You will be part of a larger organization responsible for the manufacturing of millions of devices a year, used by millions of users each day
About the Requirements
EXPERIENCE
• Proven background in electronics, acoustic transducers and audio circuits
• Experience with Voice over IP SoC devices
• Experience in TIA-920, ETSI ES 202 740 audio performance standards
• Experience with IEEE Std 269 test methods
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Audio path tuning (gain distribution, frequency response, compression, noise reduction techniques)
• Strong understanding of acoustic measurement and test result interpretation
• Desire to continuously learn…and to share your learnings with your peers
• Collaboration skills – across global cultures and time zones
• Self-motivated – can manage multiple priorities in an efficient manner
• VoIP related skills: IP, SIP, SSH, Packet Captures, XML
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• The Audio Lab is based in the Avaya Ottawa location. Due to the nature of the test and development most of the work activity is in-lab

- Electronics Technologist
- Engineering Degree
