About the Role

Avaya is seeking a skilled and experienced Tax Compliance Manager to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Based in Morristown, New Jersey, on a Hybrid basis (2-3 days in office), you will be part of a small, highly regarded tax team that works closely with the controllership and other core functions. In this role, you will oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, manage audits, and develop strategies to minimize tax liabilities while supporting Avaya’s strategic growth. The focus will be on US income tax matters, including federal and state tax compliance and reporting, allowing you to make a meaningful impact within the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage US income tax matters, focusing on federal and state tax compliance and reporting.
  • Lead the preparation and review of federal pro-forma tax returns in Corptax.
  • Oversee the e-filing of the federal consolidated tax return, including all necessary forms and attachments.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of state and local returns, collaborating with third-party resources as needed.
  • Review and manage quarterly federal and state tax estimates and extensions.
  • Supervise and mentor an Income Tax Associate.
  • Respond to federal and state tax audits and manage information document requests (IDRs).
  • Resolve income tax notices and coordinate tax payments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external tax advisors on relevant matters.
  • Support process improvements by driving automation, standardization, and simplification of tax operations.
  • Assist with cash tax management, corporate project support, and ad-hoc business advisory matters.

About You

  • 5-10+ years of experience in US federal and state income tax.
  • Strong expertise in tax compliance, reporting, and audit management.
  • Experience with tax software like SAP, HFM, Corptax, and Alteryx (a plus).
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead junior staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • MS in Taxation or CPA certification is a plus.

The base salary range for this role is $109,100 - $175,000 + bonus.
