Job Information

Avaya seeks to add an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and talented individual to its global commercial contract negotiation team primarily supporting the company's North America business. The primary job responsibility of this Senior Contracts Negotiator position is negotiation of contracts and transactional support of our NA direct and indirect business as part of our global commercial contract negotiation team that is part of the Avaya Law organization. You will work collaboratively with our attorneys, other contract negotiators, channel organization, sales organization, finance, and the various business units to ensure best-in-class, seamless support to our channel partners and customers. You will be reporting to the Senior Director in the Contracts organization. This position is based in Avaya’s Morristown, NJ office though there is some flexibility in terms of location.

Responsibilties

Establishes and oversees contractual relationships with some of the company’s largest and most strategic customers and partners.  

Serves as a "trusted advisor" to internal business clients by effectively managing cross-functional internal teams to drive negotiations to closure.

Supports sales teams through the full sales cycle including providing input to the commercial sales strategy, RFP responses, performing risk assessments, developing recommendations with sales and delivery teams to mitigate risk, and managing contract negotiations and escalations, all while ensuring strict adherence to company policies/schedules or seeking approvals to deviate where appropriate.

Drafts, reviews and negotiates a broad range of channel and customer agreements, with a primary focus on distributor, reseller, and agency agreements. Familiarity with revenue recognition policies is helpful.

Advises business clients using extensive contract knowledge, knowledge of legal requirements for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, awareness of company financial policies and strategies, and customer requirements. 

Develops proactive tactics to address anticipated business needs and recommends solutions to complex problems.  

You will collaborate and partner effectively to address matters relating to standard contract templates and agreements already in place with customers and partners.

Support global and local initiatives to improve processes, templates, and job aids.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree; law degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience with a technology company.
  • Proven skills in drafting commercial transactions required.
  • Experience negotiating Cloud, Software as a Service deals and knowledge of software licensing and other services terms.
  • You must be an excellent negotiator with strong influencing skills that can plan, manage and conduct negotiations on a non-confrontational, win-win basis.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of channel business and operations is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in managing a volume of large and/or strategic negotiations.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a demanding workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and inter-personal skills.
