Job Information

Avaya seeks to add a highly talented individual to its commercial contract negotiation team primarily supporting the company's U.S. business. The primary job responsibility of this Senior Contracts Manager position is negotiation of contracts and transactional support of our U.S. direct and indirect business through channel distributors and resellers, forming part of our general commercial contract negotiation team that is part of the Avaya Law organization. You will work collaboratively with our attorneys, other contract negotiators, channel organization, sales organization, finance, and the various business units in the U.S. and globally to ensure best-in-class, seamless support to our channel partners and customers. You will be the “go-to” resource for executives and leaders in your areas of concentration. All tasks will be performed under the supervision of a Senior Director in the Contracts organization, and you will work closely with an Avaya attorney. This position is based in Avaya’s Morristown, NJ office.



Establishes and oversees contractual relationships with some of the company’s largest and most strategic customers and partners.  Drafts, reviews and negotiates a broad range of channel and customer agreements, with a primary focus on distributor, reseller, and agency agreements. Familiarity with revenue recognition policies is helpful.  Serves as a "trusted advisor" to internal business clients by effectively managing cross-functional internal teams to drive negotiations to closure. Performs risk assessments, develops alternative recommendations during negotiations or escalations, while ensuring strict adherence to company policies/schedules. Prepares documentation that reflects extensive contract knowledge, knowledge of legal requirements for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, awareness of company financial policies and strategies.  Develops proactive tactics to address anticipated business needs and recommends solutions to complex problems.  You will collaborate and partner effectively with business units, the sales organization, and finance, and assist executives, sales professionals and other members of the Legal Department with matters relating to standard contract templates and agreements already in place with customers and partners. You will be asked to draft and refine contract templates, playbooks, and guidance documents, and act as a fiduciary for the company in driving compliance in day-to-day channel and sales activities.

  • Bachelors degree; law degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with a technology company is needed.
  • Proven skills in drafting commercial transactions required.
  • Experience negotiating Cloud, Software as a Service deals and knowledge of software licensing and professional services terms.
  • You must be an excellent negotiator with strong influencing skills that can plan, manage and conduct negotiations on a non-confrontational, win-win basis.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of channel business and operations is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in managing a volume of large and/or strategic negotiations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and inter-personal skills.
  • Track record of excellence and leadership in past employment and academics.
