Short Description

 Within a team environment and with significant autonomy, the Benefits Manager will assist in all functions relating to the company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, assigned risk and welfare employee programs in the U.S.  This includes administration of benefits for employee populations that are active (salaried and represented), retired, and terminated. 

This associate will help monitor all aspects of benefits administration as well as provide technical support in the delivery of the benefits programs.  This responsibility includes maintaining associated records, follow-up with employees, managers, and vendors; as well as compliance with local, state and federal regulations.  Principal activities include extensive management of day-to-day processes within the benefits administration and outside provider activities for enrollment, issue escalations, program delivery, regulatory compliance and participant communications.  Ability to work in a team environment and share responsibility is a must.

Job Duties

  • Administers and communicates benefits program relating to plan options, policy features, enrollment and other requirements
  • Ensures benefit plans are administered in accordance with external regulations and internal processes
  • Administers and coordinates activities associated with the Benefit Programs and recommends initiatives consistent with the mission and vision of Avaya.
  • Respond to employee inquiries or requests to assist in resolving employee benefit questions regarding Avaya’s benefit programs
  • Monitor benefit database integrity, ensuring invoice accuracy, reconciling account discrepancies, and submitting timely payment requests on a regular and systematic basis
  • Manage Wellness activities and vendors while driving participation in Avaya’s Wellness programs
  • Work closely with the HR/Benefits team and contribute on projects, highlighting issues, and making recommendations to address issues and priorities as needed
  • Identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Reconcile HRA qualification files to prevent overpayment
  • Assist with updates to plan documents and Summary Plan Descriptions
  • Drive and participate in all related audit processes for both internal and external parties
  • Participate in preparation of Form 5500s, Summary Annual Reports and other federal and state compliance filings

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with minimum of 3 years of benefit-focused experience
  • Demonstrate cross-functional effectiveness with finance, legal, audit, treasury, and other HR
  • Strong planning, initiative, and resourcefulness with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and quickly adapt to changes in direction
  • Must have the ability to research, evaluate, and analyze complex technical data related to benefit plans and programs in an organized way
  • Experience with web-based enrollment and vendor and payroll integration with benefits system
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills are required
  • Able to exercise independent judgment, with a certain degree of creativity and latitude
  • Excel should be a strength
