Avaya’s dynamic Intellectual Property Group seeks a Senior IP Paralegal to help manage our extensive and growing worldwide IP portfolio, with a focus on patents. You will assist with everything from setting policies and strategies to maintaining our docketing and billing systems. You will work with our in-house staff of attorneys and paralegals as well as with outside counsel to coordinate patent application and patent prosecution work and will be responsible for managing the Group’s budget, docket metrics, and KPIs.

To be successful in this role you will drive the cost-effective protection of Avaya’s investment in innovative technologies to deliver Experiences that Matter to our customers.


  • Liaise with in-house and outside counsel regarding patent application preparation and prosecution
  • Prepare materials for and assist with Patent Committee meetings
  • Coordinate assignments and related documentation
  • Coordinate the patent docket with outside counsel and in-house attorneys and paralegals
  • Coordinate maintenance fee and annuity reviews and payments
  • Work with Avaya’s Finance Group to maintain the IP Group’s budget and oversee review and payment of outside counsel invoices
  • Work with other Avaya staff to administer Avaya’s Inventor Award Program
  • Assist with IP licensing, sales, and acquisitions
  • Maintain and report docket and budget metrics and KPIs
  • Lead/assist as needed on strategic initiatives





  • A strong record of achievement as a paralegal in a company or law firm supporting patent functions.



  • Experience with patent docketing systems, preferably CPi.
  • Experience with legal invoice systems, preferably LegalTracker (Serengeti).
  • Experience supporting invention review committees.
  • A commitment to teamwork.



  • The preference is for someone to work out of Avaya’s Morristown, NJ office but partially- or fully-remote work arrangements and/or being based out of another Avaya office will be considered.



  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate


5 - 8 Years of Experience


Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
