About the Opportunity

Avaya seeks to add an enthusiastic, highly motivated and talented individual to its commercial contract negotiation team in EMEA primarily supporting the company's EU business. The primary job responsibility for this Contract Manager position is the negotiation of contracts and provision of transactional support for our indirect business through channel distributors and resellers, and for our direct customers. The successful candidate will be part of our general commercial contract negotiation team supporting our sales and delivery teams in the relevant regions.


You will work collaboratively with our attorneys, other contract negotiators, channel organization, sales organization, finance, and the various business units in the EU and globally to ensure best-in-class, seamless support to our channel partners and customers. In this role you will be reporting to the Legal Director for UK/I. Whereas it would be beneficial for the person to be primarily based in Guildford/UK this is a role that allows some flexibility in terms of location.

About the Responsibilities
  • Oversees and establishes contractual relationships including for some of the company’s largest and most strategic customers.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to internal business clients by effectively managing cross-functional internal teams to drive negotiations to closure.
  • Supports sales teams through the full sales cycle including providing input to the commercial sales strategy, RFP/ITT responses, performing risk assessments, developing recommendations with sales and delivery teams to mitigate risk, and managing contract negotiations and escalations, all while ensuring strict adherence to company policies/schedules or seeking approvals to deviate where appropriate.
  • Advises business clients using extensive contract knowledge, knowledge of legal requirements for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, awareness of company financial policies and strategies, and customer requirements.
  • Participates in executive briefings and deal reviews.
  • Develops proactive tactics to address anticipated business needs and recommends simple solutions to complex problems.
  • Reviews non-standard contractual and other documentation that bind the company.
  • Supports global and local initiatives to improve processes, templates, and job aids.
About the Requirements
  • An excellent team player.
  • UK, German or French law or business degree, or equivalent. 
  • Fluent in English, other European languages are a plus with German language being highly beneficial
  • Strong, relevant experience with a technology company in a commercial, contracting or legal role.
  • Proven skills in drafting commercial transactions required.
  • Experience negotiating Cloud and Software as a Service deals is key, as well as knowledge of traditional software licensing and services contracts.
  • You must be an excellent negotiator with strong influencing skills that can plan, manage and conduct negotiations on a non-confrontational, win-win basis.
  • Strong business acumen is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting large and/or strategic negotiations including project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and inter-personal skills.
  • Track record of excellence in past employment and academics.
