Job Information

A key member of the Avaya executive leadership team, articulating the strategic vision for Avaya.  With a dual focus on execution they will translate the vision into a set of prioritized objectives which are well understood and coordinated across the organization.  Additionally, the SVP will have a strong knowledge of Avaya’s products, end-markets and relevant industry trends including cloud, mobility and innovative technologies.  With deep technology development experience this individual will integrate disruptive technologies into the overall technology strategy and roadmap as well as drive the development and delivery of these new capabilities.  As an experienced executive this individual will have the credibility and presence to engage effectively with the board of directors and external market as they drive the company’s strategic planning, and technology capabilities as the company executes on its forward growth plans all while building a culture around the company’s cultural principles – simplicity, accountability, trust, empowerment and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and communication of a comprehensive strategy which articulates an overall vision, establishes a short-list of strategic priorities and translates the vision into clearly defined, action-oriented strategic initiatives.
  • Represent senior leadership in communicating the strategy to the board, across Avaya, and with external constituents including industry and market analysts, customers and alliance and business partners.
  • Lead Avaya’s emerging products, cloud and innovative technology strategy in order to extend market offerings.
  • Proactively engage with the market and industry analyst community to ensure a broad set of market perspectives are shaping the strategic agenda for Avaya’s existing and future businesses – particularly in the cloud and mobility sectors.
  • Provide thought-leadership and subject matter expertise around market dynamics and opportunities, customer data and analytics, competitive intelligence, and primary research to support broad strategic opportunities and decisions.
  • Build and nurture influential trusted advisor relationships with a broad range of key Avaya executives. It is critical that this person be able to communicate and influence cross-functionally.
  • Create and execute a best in class multi-year strategic planning process ensuring corporate objectives are executed against in a holistic and coordinated manner and prioritized business goals are achieved.
  • Lead the technology organization to drive a point of view of how evolving new technologies may disrupt the company’s current operations and/or offer new opportunities for growth.  
  • Drive the development and delivery of these new technologies internally and in collaboration with key partners.
  • Drive strategic partnerships and collaborate with the sales organization to promote alliance/ interlock activities.
  • Craft a go-to-market messaging around the benefits of cloud-based delivery models versus traditional delivery. 
Ideal Experience
  • The role requires an accomplished and talented senior technology executive with strong depth and experience in the areas of strategy, corporate development and technology product development.
  • Deep experience in software engineering, preferably in an enterprise technology company with complex client requirements.
  • Significant experience developing comprehensive corporate strategies which articulate an overall vision and translate that vision into clearly defined, action-oriented strategic initiatives.
  • Experience incorporating relevant technology input and market insights into the company’s overall strategy.  Experience leading a “think tank” or technology incubator around product innovation.
  • 10+ year’s recent executive level experience in an engineering function.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with product and solution leadership and business unit executives in development and deployment of game changing products.
  • An undergraduate degree in a highly quantitative discipline or technology is preferred; M.B.A. or Master’s degree in technology is preferred, but not required.
